The Political Lamp is a connected cloud, capable of reacting in real time to messages posted on Twitter, creating a thunderstorm every time a tweet is posted on one of the accounts it monitors. Each tweet is then materialized by a series of lightnings, rolling in the cloud and disturbing the soft light of the lamp.
Behind its appearance as a beautiful home ornament, with a clean and simple design, the Political Lamp unveils its true nature when it responds in real time to tweets strom frm the current US president; with light pulses and changing intensity.
An alternative setting of the Political Lamp was also conceived by the Marseilles based designer parse error to allow the cloud lamp to react to the tweets of the current elected from the FN (right-wing populist and nationalist political party in France who lost out to President Macron ). A hidden face that immediately changes the observer’s behaviour, between anxiety and fascination, but also invites to contemplates the rise of intolerance in the world.
” my work is born of the encounter between art, design and technology. I explore the relationships between humans and their environment, seeking to provoke questions and sensations through interactivity and connectivity. ” Parse errors says on the nature of his project.
The choice of setting the Political Lamp to follow the tweets of Donald Trump is explained by the fact that he perfectly embodies a dangerous era. A world where the words of one man, released without reflection and with spontaneity on a global social network, can endanger the fate of millions by spreading the ghost of nuclear war on the planet.
The designer also worked on other project like the Earthquake Lamp, a flattened planisphere, representing the axis of the longitudes with Its light and sound pulses change according to the location of the earthquake, but also according to its magnitude, varying the color and duration of the pulsations, but also the power of the sound. Linked to a subwoofer,
the Earthquake Lamp is designed to produce an impressive rumble that will lead the viewer even further into the disturbing sensation of an earthquake.
