+15 surreal sculptures inspired by the sea by Rohan Mersh

Rowan Mersh is a multi-media sculptor who explores form through intuitive application of a material’s inherent qualities. His diverse and experimental approach to creation is epitomized by his ability to take very ordinary materials and transform them into the extraordinary. From textile sculpture to kinetic and interactive installation, Mersh’s pieces are inventive and multipurpose, bridging the realms of art, design and fashion.

Regularly exhibiting internationally with Gallery FUMI, Mersh’s sculptures have been acquired by major private and public collections the world over, most notably the V&A, Jerwood and The Crafts Council collections. His commissions and special projects include works for the Mercury Music Prize, Fendi and Veuve Clicquot.

Mersh, a graduate of the Royal College of Art in 2005, continues to live and work in London.

Descent installation features 20,000 painted screws for the 2017 Artprize

Half painting, half sculpture, a study of balance, chaos and harmony. The piece features a lengthy portrait of a semi-clad lady traced out with coloured screws. Descent weighs over 350lb, and standing seven feet tall, the art installation is a mosaic of 20,000 screws and is a challenge to transport.

The mosaic features large chunks of decking and framing screws set meticulously into painted pine board at varying depths is on entries for the Artprize 2017 ; an  independently organised international art competition which takes place for 19 days each fall ( closing October 8 ) in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Created by Bruce Mackley ; an illustrator, and painter of arts, and art theme projects Decsent is one of over a thousand ntrries yet for th 2017 prize. This is the second such piece he has created, the first was entered in a Midwestern art fair last year, where he found it appealed to new and unexpected demographics.

” Choosing such an improbable medium isn’t without some unexpected consequences, and the final effect can be unexpected and somewhat overwhelming. The main challenge is just sticking with it; this piece (as well as my 2016 effort) didn’t really materialize until the final phase” He says.

And due to the delicate nature of the installation, a custom cart had to be fabricated, dedicated for its transportation around his studio and for display purposes ;  ensuring the screws stay in Place.
Descent will be exhibited at The B.O.B. (an acronym for Big Old Building) in downtown Grand Rapids this fall during ArtPrize 9, if you want to check it out yourself.

Benjamin Shine’s dynamic textile art in Paris CFW.

A new series of Tulle Flows  exhibited along side the Artisanal collection launched at the Couture FashionWeek in paris january and it stood out of the total collection. One of the reason was it wasn’t just fashion but also a sculpture; dynamic , flowing sculpture. The work of English artist, textile designer  Benjamin Shine

Parting way from its hardwood, and marble origins, Shine seek to force through fluidity, in the large face bust made from very thin , light textile materials and held together in place with pins. Unlike his previous projects which were installations and only displayed for visual purpose,  this Tulle Flow came attached to clothes allowing it more free movement than other traditional  displays.

Retaining the dominating theme of his general work. This new Tulle Flow was no different , but was a little bigger than previous works distinct in direction of purpose. It depicts the face of a woman on white , on an evening white dress.

Beach rocks and sand for a kind of artform : Stefano Furlani

To be born and to grow up in Fano means to live in symbiosis  with the sea  and its stony and sandy shores. All along  one of the most amusing games, is the research of little stones from  unusual shapes, similar to something or someone.

As a good father, tied to traditions I passed down this exciting  passion to my son Davide, when he was three. Quickly  fascinated by what nature can give, of course with the right amount of imagination, he did his best with good results in finding such particular stones with their strange geometry.

By putting  or assembling them together on the beach lounger under the  beach umbrella we have started to create compositions more and more detailed  and elaborated that after having been captured, where reluctantly  destroyed at dusk.
Loosing what for the two of us were little artworks led me to the idea  to paste them on a wooden base making them become real pictures.

Iconic directors are remade as sculptures of their famous movies: Guess who is the banana ?

American visual artist Mike Leavitt is a huge movie fan. To honor his favourite directors, Mike carved 16 wooden figures. However, their shapes are rather unusual, because the artist merged famous movie makers with iconic characters from their films.

“Great film directors get cut up,” Mike explains on his website. “They take pains with the details, story, money and sacrifices to their vision. Their body succumbs to the pressure.”

All figures are 1:4 in scale, and 18 inches tall or wide, sculpted from scratch in wood and polymer clay. “Art and film treat my pain. They’re magic. They trick me into remembering why this world is so damn beautiful,” Mike adds. 17.5k instagram followers

Amazing 3D street art bring Portugal to live: Bordalo

Street arts are  quite common here in Melbourne ; colorful and  adding an exciting twist to the alley ways they are appreciated in quantity . But 3D street  arts are not that common. Portugal seem to be getting all the attention in the 3D street art scene all thanks to Bordalo Segundo born in Lisbon, 1987.

This street artist is the sole reason the streets of Lisbon are alive with almost live like designs. Citing him:

“I belong to a generation that is extremely consumerist, materialist and greedy. With the production of things at its highest, the production of “waste” and unused objects is also at its highest. “Waste” is quoted because of its abstract definition: “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure”.

He create, recreate, assemble and develop ideas with end-of-life material and try to relate it to sustainability, ecological and social awareness. And has exhibited his works out Portugal with
